Deeds of Maharaja Narasingh recalled

The 223rd birth anniversary of late Maharaja Narasingh was observed today at his birthplace Sagolband Mabudhou Mantri Leikai.
The observance function was organized by the Maharaja Narasingh Memorial Committee and Shri Shri Gopinath Temple Board under the aegis of Art and Culture, Govt of Manipur.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam graced the function as the chief guest while Sahitya Academy Awardee E Sonamani Singh was the functional president.
MLA of Sagolband A/C RK Imo was the guest of honour.
The birth anniversary of the late Maharaja Narasingh was held to commemorate his contributions to the welfare of Manipur.
He was born in 1792 and served as the King of Manipur for six years and died in 1850 .
Historians recorded that the late King of Manipur maintained a cordial relation with all village chiefs settled in the hill and valley areas.
He played a pivotal role in repelling the Burmese army after the dreaded Seven Years Devastation with the help of the British.
He was regarded as one of the noble kings of Manipur by the British.
As part of the function, various awards were conferred on different personalities who excelled in various fields like culture, agriculture, police service, teaching, distinguished children home, sports, education and theatre.
Prof Naorem Joykumar Singh spoke on the topic of "Law and Order and Administration Reform during 1834 to 1850 in Manipur" .
Prof Joykumar stated that Maharaja Narasingh was an efficient administrator who united Manipur as a single independent sovereign State.
Chief guest, Gaikhangam urged all concerned to emulate the bravery and courage of the late King who also painstakingly served and worked for the welfare of the State.
He added that the administrators should learn the strategy and techniques he once used to unite all the people within one State.
Further, he said that Maharaja Narasingh was one of the noblest Kings in the history of Manipur with a vision to safeguard the integrity and unite the people.
"We must follow the path he had shown us with love as the connecting link between various communities of the State," he said.
"The late King's administrative skill is something we all must appreciate and learn so as to bring unity and integrity by proving our sincerity," said Gaikhangam.
Stating that people of Manipur are talented, he said people of the State can be dominant players in every aspect with maintenance of little discipline and a work culture, Gaikhangam added.
