A review meeting would be held tomorrow and if the situation improves, the prohibitory orders would be lifted further.
The unfolding law and order situation following the death of two protesters at Ukhrul and subsequent decision of the UNC to ban vehicular movements on all National and State highways has been apprised to the Union Home Ministry.
The Home Ministry responded positively.
The Ministry event sent Special Secretary (Internal Security) Prakash Mishra, Additional Secretary (Home) Rajiv Gowda and Joint Secretary (North East) Shambhu to take stock of the highway bandh and also the law and order situation.
Together with the Home Ministry high-level officials, a meeting was held with Army, paramilitary and police officials on how to ship in essential commodities into the State, Gaikhangam said.
The Home Ministry team left for Delhi this afternoon after holding a meeting with the Governor.
Apart from killing 250 civilians, NSCN-IM have assassinated many distinguished political figures including former Chief Minister Yangmaso Saiza.
They ambushed MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing before assassinating Ukhrul ADC Executive Member Ngalangzar Malue, Gaikhangam stated.
The August 30 rally at Ukhrul was not a peace rally as it was taken out at the behest of some elements.
Even as five police commandos were kidnapped, weapons confiscated and their vehicles torched, all the police personnel were instructed to exercise maximum restraint.
"Had they (police commandos) done their duties as demanded by the situation, no one could have overpowered them", the Deputy Chief Minister asserted.
The Government has already taken up a contingency plan and has initiated due measures in consultation with Army and Assam Rifles to provide adequate security escorts to transporters.
If any element does anything which goes against the interest of the State, the Government would not remain silent.
Whereas the Government has been working to recover the confiscated weapons through different channels, the Government of India is expected to take up all possible steps.
The violent confrontation of August 30 which led to the killing of two persons would be enquired thoroughly to ascertain the facts and circumstances, Gaikhangam added.
