Imphal, December 04 2024:
The Foothill Naga Joint Action Committee (FNJAC) has come out strongly against some "illegal immigrants and refugees" who have wreaked havoc on the normal life of Nagas in Leimakhong area by engaging in robbery, extortion and orchestrated mob attacks.
A press release issued by the Media Cell of FNJAC asserted that Nagas in Leimakhong area have tolerated the "goondaism of illegal immigrants/refugees with the belief that they would mend their ways as they are supposed to be fellow Christians".
However, FNJAC alleged that the "illegal immigrants" have waylaid Naga travellers to rob, extort and orchestrate mob attacks on Naga properties while not even sparing the Church in Leimakhong Chingmang area and looting the properties of the house of worship.
The FNJAC maintained that the "illegal immigrants and poppy planters" have engaged in wanton provocation and theft of properties disregarding the Nagas' kind gesture of providing them free passage in Naga areas.
In this connection, FNJAC referred to a case of theft which occurred on November 30 and accused the Leimakhong Area Protection Committee of insulting the Nagas of Leimakhong area with derogatory remarks instead of condemning the incident.
In addition to such anti-social activities, the press note also reminded the public of the burning down of a Naga house by "illegal immigrants/refugees" on June 18, 2023 and added that a criminal case is still pending against the perpetrators in Sekmai police station.
FNJAC asserted that the Committee might be compelled to take appropriate action if the aforementioned group of people fail to mend their ways.
