Jiribam, November 04 2015:
Soon after the 28-hour bandh called by the Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) concluded, the committee has resolved to impose an indefinite economic blockade along the NH-37 and State highways connecting Jiribam from November 6 midnight, reports our correspondent.
Continuing its demand to upgrade Jiribam to a full-fledged revenue district, JDDC today said that people of Jiribam belonging to various communities have always supported the committee's demand.
Constituting a separate committee by some group of people based on political interest is unfortunate, said JDDC.
Claiming 70 per cent of Jiribam area as a tribal area by the Tribal Rights Demand Committee (TRDC) is baseless, alleged JDDC.
Statement of TRDC which said Jiribam was declared as a hill area during the first State election in 1948 is a confusing argument, it said.
Discussing the pre-merger agreement amid the committee's demand can be termed as a deceptive step of the State Government, JDDC convenor W Dinesh Meitei added.
Stating the demand put forward by the committee is for the common good, Dinesh appealed to the people of Jiribam not to fall for such misleading statements but rather extend support to the demand of JDDC.
