Imphal, October 04 2013 :
With a view to give a better shape to Government of India's Look East Policy, State Bank of India today opened a new branch at the border town of Moreh.
The SBI branch opened today is also equipped with an ATM booth.
Speaking at the inaugural function, RBI Guwahati Regional Director PK Jena said that the Chief Minister as well as the Chief Secretary earlier asked SBI to open a branch at Moreh as the UBI branch already functioning there was overflowing with customers.
Jena stated that only banking infrastructure can provide foreign exchange facilities.
The SBI branch was opened at Moreh in view of its strategic location for Indo-Myanmar border trade.
There should not be no shortage of cash in the ATM booth attached to the bank branch otherwise customers would not be able to enjoy full benefits of opening a new bank branch, Jena exhorted.
SBI North East Circle Chief Regional Manager Rajnish Kumar stated that all the facilities available at SBI banks located at Guwahati would be available at Moreh too.
Noting that Asian Highway-I as well as the Trans Asian Railway would pass through Moreh, Rajnish claimed that Moreh is a 'blooming town' .
