Imphal, June 04 2011: Police have arrested a man who reportedly strangulated his own wife to death and mislead the people as well as the police claiming that his wife hanged herself to death.

The arrested man has been identified as Moirangthem Ibomcha Singh (35) s/o Chaoba of Seijang Mayai Leikai and his deceased woman as Samadram Ningol Moirangthem Ongbi Rajeshwori Devi (33) .

Based on what Ibomcha said to the maternal family members of Rajeshwori, her younger brother Samadram Milan Meitei (32) lodged a report with the Lamlai Police Station stating that his sister was claimed to have been found dead hanging with the help of a rope inside the kitchen of her house at around 6 am yesterday, but the body had already been taken down.

Accordingly, Lamlai police registered a UD case.

However, when a team of Lamlai police under the supervision of its officer in-charge Inspector Keisham Dhananjoy Singh investigated into the case, it was found out that Ibomcha himself had strangulated his wife to death.

In this connection, Inspector Dhananjoy informed mediapersons that from the spot inspection, inquest and post-mortem examination, there was strong suspicion over the involvement of Ibomcha.

So, he was picked up for interrogation today during which Ibomcha confessed to the crime.

Accordingly, another FIR under section 302 of IPC has been lodged against Ibomcha.

Originally from Yaingangpokpi, Ibomcha has been staying at the house of his wife at Seijang for the last four years and they have a son and a daughter from the wedlock.

Inspector Dhananjoy further informed that though Ibomcha has not yet spelled out the motive behind the killing, it has been established that the couple always fight in the family.
