SIT to dig deeper on trafficking case

Following the exposure of a trans-National human trafficking network in the district, Churachandpur police have today constituted a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a thorough probe of the illegal trade .
The five-member SIT comprising of Additional Superintendent of Police L Khongsai, SDPO Thanlon J Augustine, SDPO Churachandpur Johnny Sharma, OC Women PS Chiinneihlam Gangte, and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) in-charge Tualsonmung Tonsing would look into all possible aspects of the case to expose the trade.
They are required to report about the progress of their investigation to the SP twice every day .
On Saturday, the district police had caught four people; three women including an alleged kingpin and their male driver while rescuing three girls from their custody.
Another woman identified as Muanching, 28 wife of Paoboi of Khumuhjamba Leikai along with Lalmuankima, 25 – husband of the kingpin � were again picked up today for further examination on the case .
The SP of Churachandpur Rakesh Balwal said the SIT will examine every aspect of human trafficking racket active in Churachandpur and beyond.
They will also compile list of girls who have been trafficked and about other traffickers; the extent of their reach in other districts and the involvement of any other major player .
The district police, Balwal said, have so far received some vital clues from the examination of the main accused Esther Lalpianmawii and those clues will be significant for the SIT probe.
The police it is learnt have so far established the relation between Esther and a man at the forefront of the trade in Myanmar.
