ZSUD organizes seminar on crime against women

Zeliangrong Students' Union, Delhi (ZSUD) organized a seminar on "Crime Against Women in Delhi, Women and Child Trafficking in the North East Cum Delhi University Admission Queries" at Faculty of Law, Delhi University, New Delhi on 22 June 2013 .
The seminar was organized in view of the rising crime against women in Delhi and other parts of the country.
Delivering the welcome address of the seminar, Holang Ngonamai, President of ZSUD, said that morality is degrading among the present generation.
He pointed out that after the Nirbhaya rape incident, the civil societies, Govt and NGOs are actively working to curb crime against women and children.
However, sadly we see such crimes increasing at the same time.
The idea of this seminar is not only to bring awareness but also to help the NE people build relationship with Organizations, activists and legal experts who are willing to help and support us in fighting against such crimes.
Ms.Nandini Rao, a prominent women's rights activist and human rights expert, emphasized on Relevant Acts of legislation, various Declarations and practical challenges of being a woman in a metropolitan city.
She stated that it is not only the womenfolk who should be aware but it is equally important for men too.
Only by knowing your rights and by becoming aware of such crimes, you can fight against it and stand for your rights and we can only avoid it by being aware and vigilant and know when, where and how to stand for our rights.
Thothuingam Shinglai, President of Tangkhul Katamnao Long Delhi (TKLD) spoke on the 'Insensitivity of the Authorities and the Challenges thereof' in the backdrop of recent Reingamphy's case, also Richard Loitam and Dana Sangma.
Representatives from Tangkhul Shanao Long Delhi (TSLD), made a presentation on the sociological causes, psychological consequences of human trafficking and legal perspective in handling the social menace which is increasing in our society.
Delhi University Asst.
Prof.Sirawung Raiping, and Shelmi Sankhil, addressed admission issues and other related queries especially with regard to Delhi University's new graduate program i.e.four year undergraduate programme.
The seminar was attended by elders and student representatives from various communities and states including NSUI, DUSU, NSUD, ENSUD, NE Helpline, Tangkhul SLD, Tangkhul KLD, SSPP, DMZP, KSO, Poumai SUD, Maram SUD, Sumi students, Thangal students, Delhi university Law Students and Professors.
The seminar ended with vote of thank by ID Gil, Convenor of the Seminar and Vice President of ZSUD.
