Lamka, January 03 2014 : A 26 year old youth succumbed to his injury late last night after his friends reportedly assaulted him on charge of stealing a mobile handset.

Nengkhokam S/o Chinsonpau, Bungmual village was called out from his home by some youth, identified by family as his own friends, last evening accusing him of stealing a mobile handset the day before from one of them while they were hanging out together.

He was dropped at his house by the same people along with the father of the alleged handset owner in a badly injured state, around 7 pm yesterday.

The victim who bore multiple injury marks and a badly bruised body complained of severe headache and abdominal pain and succumbed soon after, according to the victim's family.

Police were looking for the main accused identified as Pauzamawi (25) S/o Ginzathang of Vengnuam, New Lamka and his accomplices but there were no reports of any arrest by the time of filing this report.

Sources said the victim as well as the accused were hanging out together on New Year's day and while doing so they were sharing the lost handset to view a video clip.

As all of them were reportedly high on substance, the mobile went traceless leading to the group pointing their fingers on the victim leading to the assault.

Nengkhokam is a grade IV employee in the Secretariat.
