BJP workers, police allegedly thrash locals; 11 hurt

11 persons sustained injuries after BJP workers and police personnel allegedly thrashed some locals of Hatta Golapati last night.
It has been reported that BJP workers along with some police personnel came to Hatta Golapati and dismantled a house belonging to one Md Abdul Malik, s/o (L) Khalik of Hatta Golapati.
Two more shops and around 4 vehicles parked along the road were also destroyed.
Police personnel who were accompanying BJP workers reportedly fired tear gas shells and multiple rounds of ammunition.
Women and children were also reportedly not spared from violence when both the BJP workers of Wangkhei AC and police personnel thrashed some of the locals.
The injured people have been identified as Md Tomba (35) , s/o Jabbar of Hatta Golapati, Md Mustafa (38), s/o Md Nur Mohmad of Manai Inkhol, Inaobi (40), w/o Md Rahman of Hatta Golapati, Saha (30), s/o (L) Mohamaddin of Hatta Golapati, Shahid Ahmad (48), s/o (L) Hadayattulah of Mantripukhri Mercylane, Boies Kom (40) of Dimdailong, Juddin (35), s/o Hamitraja of Mantripukhri Mercylane, Milan Master, s/o Raju of Hatta Golapati and Samsad (32), w/o Auj Khan of Hatta Golapati.
Following the incident, a sit-in protest was staged today at Hatta Golapati Mayai Leikai.
One Ibemcha Bibi said, "Voter slips to every registered voter of Wangkhei AC 15/17 have been already distributed.
So we enquired why the same have not been distributed in Wangkhei AC 15/16.In the meantime, BJP worker Abdul was seen distributing only two voter slips each to households which have 5 registered voters and 3 voter slips each to households which have 7 registered voters" .
"When asked if that tactic was to deprive some people from exercising their franchise, he said the remaining voter slips will be given tomorrow," she said.
On the same day, one BJP worker residing in Hatta Golapati called some other workers who came along with police personnel and soon began destroying Md Abdul Malik's house.
Apart from firing multiple rounds of bullets and tear gas shells, women, children and men were beaten up.
11 persons who sustained injuries were taken to Public Hospital and Raj Medicity for treatment, she recounted.
It has been also reported that some cash and gold jewellery were also taken away by the BJP workers and police personnel.
Protesters who took part in the sit-in said that election should be held peacefully and every voter should be given the right to exercise their franchise.
BJP should take the responsibility for all the damages done by its workers and police personnel.
