Imphal, December 01 2024:
Saying that Meetei village volunteers are not insurgents nor terrorists, at least 13 meira paibi lups from Heingang side have appealed to the Government to not arrest Arambai Tenggol leader Korounganba Khuman by levelling different charges against him.
Notably, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is investigating two cases of attacks on police and arms loot in strife-tom Manipur which allegedly involved Korounganba.
Addressing a press briefing organised by Heingang Apunba Meira Paibi (a conglomerate of 13 women organisations) at Heingang Lai Haraobung today, Meitankeishangbam Sobhasini, a displaced woman from Kangpokpi, said that it was the armed Kukis who started the violence in Manipur by attacking Meeteis.
Saying that many Meetei civilians including a toddler, children, elders and women have been killed by the Kukis in the most barbaric manner in the course of the violence, she added that Arambai Tenggol started defending Meetei villages from the Kuki aggression as the Government failed to protect the lives and properties of the people.
She said that Korounganba is also one such person who came out as a village volunteer to protect the Meetei people.
Saying that NIA levelling many charges against Korounganba to arrest him is unacceptable, she appealed to the Government to drop the charges.
Reiterating that it was the Kukis who attacked the Meeteis first, Sobhasini said that Meeteis till today are only defending their villages unlike Kukis who have been attacking Meeteis whenever they get the chance.
Village volunteers and Arambai Tenggol members are nof insurgents nor terrorists and they came out to stop the onslaught of the Kukis , she said while appealing to the Government to not arrest them.
Even the Indian Constitution gives people the right to defend their lives and properties, she added.
