Imphal, June 01 2013 :
Denouncing the declaration of a series of agitation from June 3 by certain elements in the name of ATSUM, the Interim Body of ATSUM during its consultative meeting held at Senapati headquarters declared the same as 'null and void' while pledging that this kind of action by 'unprincipled' individuals and power and post mongers would be met with as they deserve so.
At the same time, W Shinglai (former ATSUM General Secretary), Dailord, ex-general secretary of Poumai Naga Union and Apao Haokip, former ATSUM general secretary are appointed as the chief election commissioner, returning officer and presiding officer respectively of All Tribal Students' Union Manipur election slated to be held within June.
This resolution was reached during the third consultative meeting convened by the Interim Body of ATSUM held at Senapati on May 30 .
According to a statement issued to the press today, the meeting after threadbare deliberation on the report presented by members of the Interim Body on their reconciliation efforts on the present imbroglio, recommended the dissolution of the present Interim Body and go for fresh and democratic election by instituting an Election Commission.
Besides the CEO, RO and PO, six other senior tribal student leaders are also appointed as member of the Election Commission of ATSUM.
The meeting witnessed the participation of over 70 delegates drawn from present and past ATSUM leaders, well wishers, tribal apex body leaders, intellectuals from all hill districts and deliberated on the revival and reformation of ATSUM.
The ATSUM statement said that it is unfortunate that the name of CDSU has been continuously dragged in by some individuals in the present ATSUM imbroglio in an attempt to further their interest.
"It is good to know here that five out of the nine constituent units of CDSU namely HSA (Hmar), MZP (Mizo), Zillai (Vaiphei), KRSU (Komrem) and TKSU (Thadou-Kuki) have abruptly withdrawn from CDSU immediately after the so called bogus formation of ATSUM.
The main reason of this withdrawal was because of this unscrupulous formation of ATSUM by covertly using the CDSU without the approval of its parent bodies and existing executives.
Withdrawal of five constituent units out of nine that formed CDSU was in fact a gentleman's protest.
The five tribes' students' bodies could have rather hold on the office and the union if they so desire," it said.
