JNMDA celebrates foundation day

The 59th Foundation Day celebration of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), which would go on for three days, began from today at the auditorium of the academy with MP Dr T Meinya as Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Meinya said that the rich tradition of unique games which requires skill and stamina help the player of Manipur in winning fame at the international sporting arena.
With such rich tradition of games like Sagol Kangjei, Yubi Lakpi, Khong Kangjei, Mukna Kangjei, etc, state players have due advantage over other competitors in adapting into any form of sports, thus, bringing more laurels to the state and the country.
He further said that just like sports and games, the rich culture of Manipur plays an important role in introducing the tiny state to the rest of the world and so, it is a must for every citizen of the state to conserve their culture and tradition.
Vice Chairman of JNMDA Prof N Tombi, who presided over the function, informed that the Academy would be celebrating its diamond jubilee at the national level for a whole month next year.
During the celebration, performers and resources persons from other states of the country would be invited for their performances and discussion.
Moreover, the Academy would bring out a distinct form of Manipuri solo dance to mark the occasion.
Stressing on the need to establish a cultural university in the state, Prof N Tombi further pointed out that JNMDA has its own limit and could not cover all the different forms of traditional dance forms of the state.
