Imphal, October 31 2012:
With the objective of making the farmers self-sufficient and as an encouragement to farmers to make the arable land more productive, the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) has distributed varieties of seeds to farmers from all districts of the State today.
Addressing the seeds distribution function at its office located at Kwakeithel, AMUCO President KT Rahman recalled that Manipur was once an independent kingdom and self-sufficient.
Even the State had witnessed two Nupi Lan (women's uprisings ) which was fought to resist export of food grains from the State.
However, the agricultural lands became clogged since few decades back, precisely when Manipur was merged into Indian Union.
Vast patches of agriculture land were submerged in water around Loktak Lake with the taking up of the power project, even though the State is still sort of adequate power supply, Rahman said.
Reaffirming that Government of India should not effect the territorial integrity of the State in its attempt to appease the NSCN-IM to find a solution to the ongoing peace talks between them, the AMUCO President further asserted that the people of the State are well-prepared to rebuff against any attempt to alter the State's territorial integrity.
Rahman also stated that the Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur had already conveyed their stance to Government of India against the alteration of the territorial integrity of the States.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi also assured to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur, he recalled.
Appreciating the initiative to bring a solution to the problem, Rahman said that the people of Manipur are not standing against a solution to the problem of Nagaland, but the interest and territorial integrity of Manipur should not be effected while solving the problem.
He warned that a strong movement would come if there is anything against the interest of the people of Manipur.
