Betel leaves disposed

Twenty baskets of betel leaves seized yesterday have been disposed by Heingang Police and Imphal East Food Safety Department today.
Following inputs, Heingang Police had seized a truck containing the betel leaves yesdown due to coronavirus, as chewing/consumption of such product involves spitting of saliva which may spread and transmit the coronavirus, he said urging all not to use chew tobacco andterday at around 3 pm from Awang Potshang-bam Makha Leikai.
As police couldn't find the driver and owner at the site, the truck was towed to the police station, said Officer in Charge of Heingang PS Kh Raikumar Singh.
The betel leaves were disposed after consulting the Food Safety Department, he said.
Imphal East Food Safety Designated Officer T Brojendro said that betel leaves were disposed under deep pit with bleaching powder.
Transport and use of non-smoke tobacco product is banned amidst the lock spit in public places.
