Kangpokpi, April 30 2016 :
Sadar Hills civil bodies today registered strong opposition to the installation of an outpost of Manipur police commandos at Gamgiphai in Sadar Hills.
A joint meeting of Sadar Hills based Kuki Inpi, Kuki Women Union, Kuki Students' Organization, Kuki Organization for Human Rights and all units of KISH, KWU and KSO vehemently opposed the alleged unexpected installation of com- mando outpost at Gamgiphai village under the administrative jurisdiction of Sadar Hills.
The joint meeting of KISH, KWU, KSO and KOHR also censured the State Government decision to set up the commando outpost at Gamgi-phai for security reason while mentioning that the Manipur Government could have strengthened the district police instead of setting up the commando outpost.
The Sadar Hills civil bodies also mentioned various incidents that occurred in the past at different hill districts of the State while opposing the State Government decision to install the commando outpost.
They urged the Government not to take up such measures in Sadar Hills.
The joint meeting further appealed to the State Government to withdraw the outpost immediately.
It cautioned that the Govt would be held responsible for any untoward incident arising out of it.
Meanwhile, Thadou Students Association, Thadou Youth Association and Thadou Women Association also held a joint meeting over the same issue at Motbung this afternoon and collectively opposed the installation of Commando outpost at Gamgiphai yesterday.
The Thadou bodies alleged that the Commandos are not in the good book of the people.
They said that the commandos showed their true nature and started harassing innocent civilians of the area the moment they entered yesterday night.
The joint meeting also noted that installation of Commandos in Hill districts of Manipur has been collectively and unanimously opposed by the hill people since long time back in the same vein the Thadou bodies also opposed the stationing of the Commandos in Sadar Hills.
"How could we feel secure when the State force who have no hesitation to use live bullets towards the hill people are dispatched for our protection and security," wondered the Thadou bodies and stated that if it is for highway protection there is enough para military force and district police to look after the same.
The joint meeting of the Thadou bodies also demanded the State Government to withdraw the Manipur Police Commandos within May 3 from Gamgiphai village in Sadar Hills.
They also warned that the people of Sadar Hills will take an extreme form of agitation if the Government fails to withdraw its force from Gamgiphai within the stipulated time and the Government will be solely responsible for any untoward incident.
The Thadou bodies also appealed to the three MLAs of Sadar Hills to instantly intervene into the matter and feel the aspiration of the people.
