Preparations underway in Imphal East for March 4 poll

Imphal, February 28 2017:
In an effort to ensure free, and fair election in Imphal East district, the District Election Officer, Imphal East district has taken up rigorous preparations.
The district will go to the polls on March 4 and counting will be held on March 11.As part of the preparations, a micro observer training was held today at the Panchayat Bhawan, DC Office Complex Porompat.
The training programme chaired by DEO Ningthoujam Geoffrey, was also attended by General Observers Atul Kumar Tiwari, BR Singh and Rabindra Kumar Mishra.
It may be mentioned that the three General Observers along with Police Observers Alok Kumar, Ashok Kumar Yadav and Lande Shivdeep Wamanrao and Expenditure Observers Pushkraj Bharti, Jayshankar Prakash Upadhyay and Prakash Borgohain are all in the district to inspect the preparations in the district.
At the same time, all steps have been taken up to provide Assured Minimum Facilities which includes drinking water, electricity, separate toilets for men and women and ramps to facilitate the differently abled in all the 430 polling stations in the 10 Assembly Constituencies of the district.
Voter Assistance Booths will also be opened in all polling stations.
Webcasting will also be done in all 430 ACs.
Flying Squads (FS) and Static Surveillance Teams (SST) are also constituted to check movement of illegal cash and intoxicants in the district.
These squads will remain functional till the completion of the polls.
Till February 27, SST has made a cash seizure of Rs 12 lakh in the district.
The FS/SST under the Police department has also seized 14,124 litres of distilled illicit liquor, 18 cans of beer, 17 beer bottles and 136 bottles of Indian made foreign liquor worth Rs 12,62,575 while the State Excise Department has also seized 8349.85 litres of distilled illicit liquor worth Rs 5,68,297.5 and 98.425 litres of IMFL worth Rs 70,697.5.The FS/SST under the Police Department has also seized a transparent plastic packet suspected to be heroin which weighed 53 grams and 1340 numbers of Spasmo Proxivon capsules.
Two gold ear rings weighing 3.9 gms worth Rs 11,310 have also been seized by the FS/SST under the Police Department.
As part of its preparation, the DEO has also set up a Control Room/ Samadhan to receive complaints against violations of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the district.
Since the Election Model Code of Conduct was put into force in the State on January 5, 2017, the control room has so far received 188 complaints of which 162 have been disposed as of while another 26 complaints are pending.
The complaints received include 65 from Chief Election Officer, 50 from district call centre, 39 through online, 26 from State call centre, five from the Election Commission of India, two from district level and one from ROs/EROs.
