Imphal, January 31 2022:
The State's momentum of development which was lost during the last five years can be restored and re-invigorated if Congress party is elected to power in the forthcoming election, asserted ex-Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi.
Retired IAS P Saratchandra who was elected from Moirang AC on BJP ticket, former Minister Ningthoujam Biren from Sekmai AC and former Managing Director of MANIDCO and MANITRON Ningthoujam Joykumar (Bishnupur AC) joined the Indian National Congress today.
Speaking at a reception function held today at Congress Bhavan here in honour of the trio, O Ibobi said that BJP would not be able to form Government in any of the five States which are going to polls in the next couple of months and there would be big political changes at the Centre too.
The two-phase election scheduled on February 27 and March 3 is a very crucial one as it would determine the fate of Manipur for the next five years, he said.

The citizens are aware of how the incumbent Government has been handling the Covid-19 pandemic, how the poor masses have been living under extreme misery and how high have the prices of essential commodities inflated, Ibobi said.
People were very hopeful of a state of welfare and rapid development under the BJP-led Governments of the Centre and the State but all the people's hopes have been belied, he remarked.
Noting that the BJP-led Governments of the Centre and the State are often touted as double-engine vehicle, the ex-Chief Minister appealed to the masses to study whether the double-engine vehicle is pulling Manipur forward or backward.
All the projects undertaken by different depart- ments were completed by 90 to 99 per cent during the 15 years Congress Government.
What the BJP-led Government did was painting the newly constructed projects/buildings, installation of names and inaugurating them, Ibobi derided.
He then called upon all the people to stand firm and united so as to free the State from the double-engine Government which is going in reverse gear.
Ibobi said that Manipur can march forward again and regain the lost momentum of development by installing if Congress party is elected to power.
AICC Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das, CWC Member Gaikhangam, MPCC president N Loken and many key leaders of Congress party were also present at the reception function.
