Imphal, November 28:
The United Naga Council, UNC, HQ Senapati, has taken a strong exception to the UCMs reported statement that the UNC should be declared an outlawed body by branding it as a mouthpiece of the NSCN (IM).
In a rejoinder to the UCMs media comment, KS Paul Leo, UNC president, said the UNC is an apex socio-cultural body of the Naga tribes of Manipur with a written constitution, and is the only authenticated body to represent the voice of the Naga people in matters concerning socio-cultural and political issues.
Describing the UCM statement as a sinister plot and a clear manifestation of the mind-set of feudalistic and dominant section of the societies against the minorities, Paul Leo said the UCM has no moral and political authority to impose its diktat regarding what to do and what no to do upon anybody and any non-Meitei organizations in particular.
Paul Leo reiterated that the decision of the Naga peoples convention held in early August under the aegis of UNC, which called for immediate integration of all the Naga contiguous lands into a single administrative roof, was nothing new but reaffirmation of the history of the Naga people and their assertion to do right what history has done wrong to them by dissecting their compact and contiguous lands into several parts and placing them under different administrative roofs thereby reducing them to minorities today except the present state of Nagaland.
