Imphal, November 06:
The Committee on Human Rights (COHR), Manipur, has appealed to the people of Manipur to unitedly oppose and fight against the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance (POTO), 2001, in order to protect themselves from "state terrorism" under the cloak of the ordinance.
Punishment of security personnel involved in extrajudicial killings, putting an immediate end to acts of "state terrorism" and repeal of repressive laws designed to perpetrate atrocities on the people should be the voices of the people, the COHR said in a statement.
Recalling the massacres at Oinam, Heirangoithong, RIMS, Nungleiband, Tonsem Lamkhai, Thinglhangphai, Malom, Kumbi, Wabagai Keirak, Moirang Lamkhai, Umathel, Tousem, Tera, Ukhrul, Nungkang, Makui, Bashikhong, Sagang, Huishti and Singjamei Oinam committed by paramilitary forces, the statement pointed out that the concerned personnel are getting away with the crimes with impunity.
It also cited rape cases of Chanu Rose, Ahanjaobi, Tohring Anal, Bina and several other women committed by security personnel, terming it as "state terrorism".
