Pre-poll violence disturbing : Ibobi

Former Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi has expressed disappointment over the use of harsh and violent measures in election campaigning by certain candidates.
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhawan in connection with the 165th birth anniversary of Bir Tikendrajit, O Ibobi continued that Congress always opposes the use of violence as it won't bring lasting solution to any problem.
Saying that Congress endorses the nonviolence movement of Mahatma Gandhi even today and will continue to do so.
Ibobi added that the grand old party strongly condemns the use of violence by certain candidates to win votes or intimidate their rival's supporters.
The CLP leader also appealed to all candidates to shun all forms of violence to ensure free and fair election.
On being asked about the possibility of the Assembly election being postponed, Ibobi said that he is not the authority to answer the query.
"The Election Commission will surely take its decision after looking into the Covid situation in Manipur," he said and maintained that the possibility of the election being postponed is low.
The former Chief Minister also spoke highly of Bir Tikendrajit for the valour he displayed in fighting the British and urged the people, especially youth to follow his footsteps.
CWC member Gaikhangam, MPCC president N Loken and other Congress leaders too attended the programme.
The gatherings also paid tribute to the statue of Bir Tikendrajit.
The former Chief Minister also attended a one day political conference of Congress at Khekmen Zilla, Lilong.
