Imphal, October 29 2016:
Urging the Government of India to assign the CBI to conduct an impartial inquiry into the October 24 issue, a number of Naga civil societies, Churches, and activists while condemning the violent incidents on the said date at Ukhrul, held that the whle episode was stage managed.
In a joint statement, the different organisations said that an FIR will also be lodged with the Ukhrul police station to prevent possible destruction of evidences and added that the Naga People's Movement for Human Rights has been put in charge to see that the case is taken to its logical conclusion.
Stating that the whole event was stage managed, the joint statement gave a blow by blow account of the events of the day and cited the findings and conclusions.
The meeting condemned the incidents of violence and the atmosphere of fear and suspicion generated State wide before and after the CM's trip to Bakshi ground, said the joint statement and added that the circumstances surrounding the entire episode and the eye witness accounts all suggest that the violent incidents were stage-managed.
Explaining its stand, the civil society organisations said that the new hospital site including the building where 2 bombs exploded were guarded by a strong contingent of over 400 military personnel.
One of the bombs exploded right next to an army man sitting on a chair in the front lounge.
Fortunately, only minor injuries were caused and it left a tiny shallow mark on the ground, said the joint statement.
However, there was no sign of response, not even a defensive one, from the State forces deployed inside and outside the hospital premises, it said and added that 'assuming that the State forces didn't think of it as to be of any consequence, they were still duty bound to apprehend the attacker/s and bring them to law.
Their inaction raises serious questions of integrity; were the explosions stage-managed, a dirty communal joke on the people of the district ?' .
"Why no attempt was made to present to the public the nature and the make of those bombs by providing the physical and material evidences such as the exact extent of injuries caused, or the splinters of the bomb", it asked.
"Bullet marks on the wall of the stadium building suggest that they were fired from within the soccer ground itself still covered by the protective security ring.
One of the marks on the wall is at about 18 inches from the ground and points upward indicating that it was fired from a short distance from the ground level," added the statement.
This means that the attacker was near the indoor stadium and could have been taken down, even captured, by those inside the indoor stadium, further said the joint statement.
"All these indicate the possibility of a conscious State conspiracy against the people of the district and we therefore demand the Central Government of India to immediately assign the Central Bureau of Instigation (CBI) to conduct an impartial enquiry into this unfortunate event," reasoned the statement.
