Imphal, March 29 2012: The setting up of Manipur Thangta museum has been mooted by dignitaries and participants of the 2nd North East Festival of Thang-ta which was organised at Rupmahal Theatre here today.

The festival was organised by the Kanglei Enat Thang-ta Sindam Shanglen, Kongpal Chanam Leikai, Imphal East under the sponsorship of Ministry of Culture, New Delhi.

The function was today graced by Deputy Director of Art and Culture Department, W Mera as the chief guest while founder member of Kanglei Lainingkol, Soram Mangi was the president.

Member of NEZCC B Binamani Sharma, general secretary of Maichou Ningshing Lup, Khurai, A Irabot Meitei and President of International Manipuri Mothers' Association, Khuman Leima were the guests of honour.

Stressing on the need to preserve apparels used in Thangta, B Bnamani Sharma advocated the need for setting up a museum.

Sharma said preservation of apparels and the instruments in the museum would help in nurturing of the game.

The Ministry of Culture should be approached for the setting up of the museum, W Mera suggested.
