Chandel, January 29 2015 :
The Tengnoupal Village Authority has called an indefinite bandh along Imphal-Moreh section of National Highway 102 in protest against prohibition of civilian movement by 24 Assam Rifles with effect from this midnight.
Talking to media-persons, Lunminthang Haokip, secretary of Tengnoupal village authority said that the village authority and villagers of Tengnoupal would impose indefinite bandh along Imphal-Moreh Section of National Highway 102 from this midnight.
The indefinite bandh has been called in protest against prohibiting free movement of local people after 6 pm by the 24 Assam Rifles posted at Tengnoupal, said the village secretary.
He further said that the decision was taken by the villagers after the Assam Rifles personnel prohibited villagers who were coming home from Pallel and Imphal from proceeding further at Sita Lamkhai near Tengnoupal along the National Highway this evening.
Even the village authority members who went to request them for allowing the villagers to proceed were also abused by the Assam Rifles personnel, said Haokip .
While strongly condemning the prohibition imposed by Assam Rifles, the village secretary said that all right thinking individuals and organizations should condemn such unwarranted action of the Assam Rifles for directly challenging the fundamental rights of the villagers to move freely.
