Imphal, December 28 2019:
The demand of BJP MLAs and other MLAs who have been supporting the coalition Government to reshuffle the incumbent Council of Ministers is still alive.
Meanwhile it is reported that Chief Minister N Biren may go to Delhi in the first week of January to discuss some key issues with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah including the demand for ministry reshuffle.
There has been no response till date from the Chief Minister to the petition signed by 18/19 ruling MLAs which sought replacement of the incumbent Ministers.
The MLAs remained silent for sometime waiting for the Chief Minister to fulfil their demand.
Even though some time has passed since the petition was submitted, the MLAs' are in no mood to drop their demand, informed a source.
The ruling MLAs participated in the three-day winter session of the State Assembly which concluded recently on the Chief Minister's assurance that he would see their demand is translated into action as far as possible.
The MLAs have been closing watching what the Chief Minister would do within January 25, the deadline they set for complete reshuffle of the incumbent Council of Ministers, said the source.
The MLAs were claiming that their demand is aimed at further strengthening BJP in the State and ensure BJP gets absolute majority in the next State Assembly election which is due in 2022.On the other hand, political parties which are partners of the coalition Government have expressed strong objection against the demand for replacement of all the Ministers.
They asserted that such a move would create unrest within the Government.
Meanwhile, sources informed that BJP Central leaders would soon appoint a new president of BJP Manipur Pradesh although no date has been fixed for the party's election.
Nonetheless, BJP Central observers came to the State and collected necessary feedback for the party's presidential election.
It is said that BJP Central leaders would select one from amongst the 5/6 individuals vying for the presidential post.
