Four veteran Congress leaders- Rishang Keishing, W Angou, Kh Punilkanta and AS Arthur were honoured with simple gifts by the dignitaries.
District Congress Committee and Block Congress Committee presidents of 60 Assembly Constituencies of the State were also honoured with simple gifts.
Addressing the 131st foundation day of the Indian National Congress, Chief Minister O Ibobi stated the entire world and each and every citizen of the country are aware of the fact that the INC is the only political party which took the leading role in ensuring independence of India.
It would be futile to say that INC is a 'power monger' political party.
INC's philosophy and ideology have shaped the country's history.
India is now a super power because of the political party, he claimed.
India would not have achieved such stature if any other political party had ruled India, he added.
The INC always upholds the idea and concept of 'secularism' which is the building block of the society.
India is a vast country with different ethnic groups having varied cultures and if INC is not based entirely on 'secularism' the political party would not have made any difference till today.
"If we are to develop, we have to acknowledge other communities and give them equal respect and opportunities", stated Ibobi.
People who claim to be politicians without a clear ideology of their own continue to blame the Congress party and it is very unfortunate.
Such acts have brought down the statures of all politicians, he said.
He urged all workers and sympathizers of the Congress party and all leaders to be sincere in whatever they do for the welfare of the State.
In the last 15 years, the Congress Government has brought tremendous changes and it is evident from the infrastructural changes seen across the State, he continued.
The Congress Party would soon release a booklet which highlights all developmental works taken up in the span of 15 years.
TN Haokip stated that MPCC has formed an 'Election Campaign Committee' and the Chief Minister will head the committee as its chairman and Deputy Chief Minister would be the co-chairman.
Further, he informed that the party's nomination forms would be made available at the office of MPCC from tomorrow and intending candidates should submit them by January 5 .
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam claimed that the INC was formed to shoulder all responsibilities of the people of India prior to independence way back in 1885 on this very day.
Unlike other political parties which were formed by disgruntled politicians, INC has a rich political history.
He said that many such disgruntled politicians have formed new political parties with high promises misleading the public.
Many promises made by the BJP-led NDA Govt at the Centre have turned out to be empty leading to untold sufferings among the public.
BJP is digging their own grave by making the public suffer due to demonetization.
Such steps have brought serious hardship and suffering and yet they claim it to be a surgical strike against black money.
Their surgical strike is literally against the common people who are daily wage earners and labourers having nothing to do with black money, Gaikhangam stated.
Though effects of demonetization may wear off in due course of time, the bitter experience of demonetization faced by each and every citizen of this country would be there for a very long time, he added.
"To avoid such policy failures in future, we should choose persons who are willing to work for the betterment of the State and society as a whole", Gaikhangam continued.
He urged people to choose the right candidates from the Congress party in the upcoming 2017 election and give the mandate to the party which has been safeguarding the territorial integrity of the State apart from bringing speedy development in all sectors.
