Noney, November 28 2024:
A fierce gun fight between two armed groups suspected to be NSCN (IM) and ZUF (J) took place on Thursday around 8:45 am at Shangji village under Khoupum police station, Noney district.
A team of Khoupum police station, led by the Officer-in-Charge, swiftly responded to the situation and collaborated with Assam Rifles to conduct a joint search operation.
According to the police, no casualties were reported on either side.
Meanwhile, womenfolk of Tupul village and Pongringlong village took out a protest rally on Thursday at Tupul Bazar, with the rallyists appealing for peace, and an end to violence and gun culture.
On the other hand, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) in a release strongly denounced the on-going gunfight between ZUF and NSCN (IM), at Shangji village, subjecting the innocent public in the village to such life threatening situation.
Many women, children, elderly, and sick people are currently trapped in the village as reported by the villagers, desperately seeking help.
''Such atrocities by all parties involved with least concern for the public safety is an act of treason against the community," the release condemned, while urging both the parties to immediately cease fire and withdraw from the spot.
All parties wilfully indulging in the act should hold account ability for any loss of properties and life in the village.
The local CSOs shall initiate rescue operation and the entire group should respect the people's sentiment and give way for the team rushing to the spot, the release added.
