Imphal, July 28 2020:
Responding to the news item published on July 28 edition of this paper under the headline "SASA, MNP+ condemn", the Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS has clarified that a man was denied blood donation during a voluntary blood donation camp held on June 28 after he was found having allergic mark/urticaria/drug rash on both the hands on medical examination.
As per the guidelines of CDSO/NBTC, there are many reasons where a donor may be deferred (temporarily/ permanently), said a statement issued by Head of the Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS.
A donor is allowed to donate blood only when he/she is medically fit after clinical examination, it said.
The individual (donor) had some arguments first with PGT and then with a senior Doctor of the Department about his illness and drug intake history, it said while adding that he was never told to be a drug addict by any staff.
A departmental enquiry has already been conducted in connection with the event and different versions of the staff are available in the Department, the statement said.
The person has wrongly interpreted the matter and his repeated one sided posts in the media will seriously affect the morale of voluntary blood donors in particular and the donor organisations, it continued.
It may be noted that the voluntary blood donation camp was organised by SEVA BHARTI& NMO in the Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS.
