Imphal, July 27 2013 :
The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR), Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Katamnao Shaklong (TKS), Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) have strongly condemned the reported move of the Government of Manipur to resume household verifica-tion exercise which was already outrightly objected and rejected by the people of villages affected by the Mapithel Dam Project (Thoubal Multi-Purpose Project) .
The question being posed by the Government is to engage in the scuffle instead of doing something which would really help the people and the Government.
The intention of the Government is to show its despe- ration for having trampled the basic rights of the people from the beginning.
It cannot pursue dual policies in solving one issue.
The people concerned objecting to the household veri- fication has repeatedly made their stand very clear time and again.
They wanted the Expert Review Committee which was constituted with the consent of the Governor of the State involving all line departments of the State and Central Governments, besides all the affected village representatives to consider and settle the issues.
"We collectively urge the Government of Manipur to listen to the voice of the people and to withdraw the divisive and destructive policy.
There is honour in honouring the genuine wishes of the people.
A truly peoples' government cannot force its own people", said a press release jointly issued by NPMHR, TNL, TKS, TSL and TMNL.
For, every member of the society visualizes the immediate and the long term loss the affected people will suffer if and when the policy goes unchecked.
All the people based organizations of Ukhrul district would not accept the unilateral actions of the Government.
So must the household verification must stop and the Government should honour the stay order of the High Court.
