Two minors meet watery grave

Kangpokpi, August 26 2021:
In a tragic incident, two minor boys both aged 7 drowned in Gundung River yesterday.
It is reported that the water level at Gundung River has risen, though not at danger mark, due to the incessant rain witnessed since the past few days.
The minors were identified as Kaimonlal Kipgen (7), s/o Paoginlal of T Phainom village and Lungunmang Sitlhou (7), s/o Henkholun Sitlhou of Keithelmanbi Military Colony under Champhai sub-division of Kangpokpi district.
The two minors were rushed to District Hospital Kangpokpi, but the doctors there declared them brought dead.
Both the minor boys were students of Brighter English School, Keithelmanbi Military Colony.
The body of Kaimonlal Kipgen was buried yesterday itself while that of Lungunmang Sitlhou was cremated this afternoon.
Paotinlal Kipgen, father of Kaimonlal Kipgen told media persons that his son always asked to help him at his workplace to make ends meet.
"He was the brightest and the most understanding among my four children and I will really miss him," the father added.
According to Kaimonlal's father, they used to work in quarry and stone crushing at Gundung as it is their only source of livelihood.
However, owing to the lockdown they could not earn for months and face financial difficulties.
Meanwhile, Tujang Area Youth Association condoled the demise of two minors and extended solidarity to the bereaved family members.
The association appealed to the State Government and the District Administration Kangpokpi to provide compensation to the bereaved families.
