10 year old boy infected by 'JE'

As an apparent fallout of the recent floods which affected both the hill and valley districts of the State, a ten year old boy was diagnosed with symptoms similar to those of Japanese Encephalitis on August 22 .
Ch Machongbambou s/o Chundibou of Chaton Part II of Tamenglong district is a class III student who was staying in the hostel of Meijrao Model English School located at Irom Meijrao.
He developed symptoms like fever, cold, headache, fatigue, nausea and vomiting.
Media persons were informed by school authorities that he was admitted to JNIMS on Aug 22 and as of now his conditions is improving.

The hostel has 47 students out of which only nine were staying in the hostel.
Classes have been suspended for the last one month and a half owing to the ongoing ILPS movement.
Meanwhile, a team led by Dr M Thoinao, Imphal West District Malaria Officer conducted an awareness session on malaria, Japanese Encephalitis and other vector borne diseases at Irom Meijrao under District Nodal Officer (NVBDCP) and District Health Mission Society.
Dr M Thoinao spoke on the severity of the disease to young children.
Almost 85 percent of the total population under the age of 15 are prone to the diseases.
The fatality rate of the disease is low in case of people who have a strong immune system but can be very fatal in some cases.
To curb the menace of the vector borne disease in the area, he urged the locals to join hand with the authorities to eradicate mosquito breeding grounds and in taking up various other preventive measures.
Further he said that medication of mosquito nets will be started very soon in the area and mosquito nets will be provided to those who cannot afford it.
As part of the preventive measures, the visiting team medicated mosquito nets of the students who are currently staying in the hostel.
Machongbambou has been staying in the hostel for the last six months.
