Cabinet declares Heibok Ching as RF

Imphal, October 24 2024: The State Cabinet has adopted a resolution to declare Heibok Ching, Langthabal as a Reserved Forest.

The State Cabinet held a meeting this morning at the Chief Minister's Secretariat with Chief Minister N Biren in the chair.

Briefing media persons after the Cabinet meeting at DIPR auditorium, Nityaipat Chuthek, IPR Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan said that the Cabinet meeting primarily deliberated on two listed agenda.

Considering the issue of global warming and importance of Heibok Ching in conserving environment and biodiversity, the Cabinet meeting agreed on re-designating Heibok Ching as a Reserved Forest under the Indian Forest Act 1927 .

Notably, a gazette notification published on December 2, 2014 declared Heibok Ching as a revenue village.

Dr Sapam Ranjan said that the Government is committed to preserve the unique landscape and ecological value of the hillock (Heibok Ching) .

The Cabinet meeting further agreed to carry out a survey of all the hillocks located across the valley areas and their biodiversity, and see if they can be declared as either protected or reserved forests, Dr Sapam Ranjan said.

The State Cabinet also approved the Goods and Services Tax (8th Amendment) Ordinance 2024 .

The IPR Minister said that all the decisions adopted by the State Cabinet today are meant for people's welfare.

Taking serious note of the ever degrading environment, the Government, through the Forest Department, has also been working to see that tree saplings planted at different places survive and thrive.

Meanwhile, a source informed that the Cabinet meeting also deliberated on the functioning of Autonomous District Councils but it could not be ascertained if any decision was taken on the matter or not.
