Homage paid to martyrs

Martyrs who sacrificed their lives defending Manipur's integrity were remembered and paid tributes on "Langban Chara Tamba" ritual organised at Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple at Haying Khongban Ufong Yumfam today.
People, families of 71 martyrs and members of Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board attended the second "Langban Chara Tamba" ritual.
On the sideline of the ceremony, Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board's member secretary, Meisnam Shivadutta Luwang said the ritual was organised to remember and pay tributes to the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the people and Manipur.
The 71 martyrs remembered today include four mothers.
The ritual was organised to show the martyrs the respect they deserve and pray for their souls to rest in peace in heavenly abode, he said.
Langban Tha (Meitei lunar month Langban) is sacred for this is when the deaths are remembered and paid respect.
Langban Chara Tamba has been organised since time immemorial in Manipur, he added.
The Sanamahi Temple Board will observe Langban Nongma Panba (first day of Langban month) as Langban Chara Tamba every year for the martyrs, he said.
He called on all the people to remember the sacrifices the martyrs have made and continue in their path to protect Manipur.
