Two GPs of Manipur named for award

Khundrakpam Gram Panchayat and Phayeng Gram Panchayat have been selected for three awards by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
Khundrakpam Gram Panchayat in Imphal East has been selected for two awards - Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Purashkar and Gram Panchayat Development Plan Award while Phayeng Gram Panchayat has been selected for Child Friendly Panchayat Award, said sources.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has been awarding best performing Panchayats, in five categories across the country every year on April 4, National Panchayat Day.
However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the award ceremony has been put off, said sources adding that the Ministry of Rural Development has intimated the State Government regarding the awards.
Khundrakpam Gram Panchayat was selected for the Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Purashkar for outstanding contribution to the socio-economic development by involving Gram Sabhas.
It was also selected for the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) Award for developing and adopting GPDPs according to the State/UT specific guidelines prepared in line with the model guidelines issued by Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
Phayeng Gram Panchayat was selected for Child Friendly Panchayat Award for adopting child friendly practices.
Winners of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar (DDUPSP) and e-Panchayat Puraskar are yet to be announced.
It may be noted that Manipur had bagged four awards last year.
Meanwhile, the National Panchayat Day was observed maintaining social distancing at Panchayats in the State.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address on the day was relayed through television and radio, said sources in the Rural Development Department.
