Rabina, Sanjit remembered on death anniv

The 5th death anniversary of Thok-chom Rabina and Chungkham Sanjit was observed at Lam-sang Bazar in Imphal West district today.
Organised by Joint Action Committee Against the Brutal Killings of Thokchom Rabina and Chungkham Sanjit, the observance was attended by Irabot Foundation president Thounaojam Iboyaima, Freedom Editor RK Ranendrajit, Youth Affairs and Sports retired Superintendent Chirom Nabadwip, Apunba Lup Co-ordinators Ayekpam Lang- don, Phulindro Konsam and Sunil Karam, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president L Memchoubi and AMKIL vice-president H Sakhi as presidium members.
Phulindro Konsam while speaking at the observance said that the JAC and Apunba Lup are always ready to launch intense agitations if the Government brushes aside the issue of broad daylight killings of Rabina and Sanjit.

He said that the observance was held in protest against the brutal killings of the duo by police commandos at BT Road on July 23, 2009 .
Under the cover of AFSPA, Central security forces kill innocent people in fake encounters and rape women as the Government has empowered them with the draconian Act.
In his speech, IPSA president Elangbam Johnson men- tioned about the need for elec-ting leaders who are capable and willing to work for the cause of people.
Maintaining that it is high time to teach a lesson to the leaders who ignore people's concerns, Johnson said that people must choose leaders who have the spine to step down if they fail to perform.
Leaders from different civil society organisations attended the observance.
Earlier, the gathering paid floral tributes to Rabina and Sanjit.
