NEC funded projects reviewed

Ameising Luikham, Secretary, NEC today reviewed the ongoing NEC funded projects which were sanctioned under the HRD&E Sector, NEC and implemented in the States of the North East.
Officials of the departments concerned of the State Governments in the North Eastern Region attended the meeting.
Secretary, NEC emphasised that the need for timely completion of the projects/schemes by the implementing agencies to achieve the objectives of the various projects for the development of the education sector in the NE States.
The meeting on regional plan for the education sector was also held on the same day.
This meeting was chaired by Prof Ashoke K Dutta an NEC member and MP Bezbaruah, the other member in NEC was also present.
The meeting was attended by Vice Chancellors from the Universities of Tripura, Nagaland, Dibrugarh and representatives from institutions like NEHU, Gauhati University, IIT, Guwahati, NERIE, UGC and officials from the State Governments.
Various aspects of the education sector were discussed like the prevalence of high school dropout rates in all the States of the region, popularisation of teaching of Science and Mathematics including provisioning of laboratories especially at school level through modern methods, the need to provide hostels especially for far flung areas, teachers training, promotion of distance education, establishment of centres of excellence especially at the university level, incentives for attracting faculties, low private sector participation, etc.
Stress was laid on having updated and sufficient data on various aspects of the education sector so that a regional plan could be formulated.
Studies could also be conducted so that there is renewed focus on the areas that need immediate attention of both the State Governments and the NEC.
Prof.Dutta also stressed on the need to use new technology for the education sector and a closer interaction between the industry and universities of the region, conveyed a press release.
