Imphal, May 23 2020:
The Komrem Union, Manipur has appealed Government to maintain a gap of at least four days between two operations to bring back stranded people.
The gap of four days between two Shramik trains is necessary to ease handling of stranded people and it will provide ample time for health authorities to prepare for effective screening and other measures to contain the virus, hinted the union.
On functioning of community quarantine centres, the union said that the volunteers should also remain at the centres for the duration of the quarantine as they are also facing high risk of getting infected with coronavirus.
They are potential community spreader if they are allowed to go home to their families and community, said the union.
Considering the risk involved, the Government should provide the volunteers honorarium and ex-gratia in case they get infected, said the union adding there should be fixed number of volunteers in each centre.
At least two or three armed police Constables should be stationed at each quarantine centre to co-ordinate security measures with the volunteers.
The medical officers concerned should be given more authority to effectively manage the centres.
Required protective equipment and materials should be arranged and kept in stock, said the union.
