Imphal, April 23 2017:
A sit in protest was staged at Taothang Lamkhai condemning the abduction of SDS Brick field owner Soibam Dhanabir by a group claiming to be members of KRA(U).
Huge number of people from Lamshang, Lamdeng Khunou Taothang and employees of the brick fields took part in the sit in protest condemning the incident and demanding strict punishment for the alleged abductors who were captured by the police.
Expressing disappointment over the incident, Mutum Sarat, an employee of the brick field said that Soibam Dhanabir is responsible for providing jobs and a means of livelihood to the poor people living in the areas of Lamdeng Khunou and Lamsang.
He appealed to those concerned not to cause further disturbance in the future and also appealed to the authorities concerned to take up appropriate action against the captured abductors as well to arrest the remaining individuals involved in the act.
It can be recalled that the owner, Soibam Dhanabir, was abducted from Naoremthong in the morning of April 16 and was eventually rescued by a team of Imphal West district police on April 23 although the abductors managed to flee.
According to Lamshang Nagar Panchayat member Senjam ChingthangKhomba, the abductors had initially claimed to be from the KYKL but when they began making ransom demands through phone calls they claimed to be PREPAK and finally when they were caught by the police, they were found to be members of KRA(U) .
He pointed out that this has resulted in a huge confusion and urged whoever were concerned to clarify at the earliest.
He also warned that if such kind of unwanted incidents happen again to the owner, his family or the people of the area, the captured abductors in police custody would be held responsible and have to bear the consequences.
Two individuals accused in the case, Chongtham Ibomcha (43) of Toathang Ayungba Maning Leikai and Ningthoujam Ojit (40) of Tera Sapam Leirak were picked up by police some time back.
They had been working under one Khangembam Raju alias Ting of Keishamthong Hodam Leirak who claims to be the finance in-charge of KRA(U) .
