Imphal, April 23 2013:
Clarifying the allegations hurled against them by AZSU, ZSUM and ZYF on their supposed silence on the Alice Kamei issue, the Zeliangrong Union (AMN) and KAMA today asserted that the only concern of ZU and KAMA was the safe release of the two girls but not the issue and agitation which may give negative impact among the different ethnic groups who are living in communal harmony.
A joint statement issued by KAMA and ZU (AMN) signed by Ranjita Golmei and K Poushinglung said that it was ZU (AMN) and KAMA that initiated Alice Kamei case by convening a joint meeting of school authority, families ZYF South zone and ZSU Imphal Valley last month wherein several resolutions were adopted including refraining from issuing press statement in the interim.
Inspite of the firm decision taken in the joint meeting, the ZYF, AZSU and ZSUM released a press note the next day in contradiction to the resolution adopted in the joint meeting which resulted in the disinclination of the UG group concerned to release the girls, the joint statement pointed out.
Nevertheless, the ZU and KAMA had convened two rounds of joint meetings with the parties concerned on March 18 and 22, it added.
The joint statement made it clear that their concern was the release of Alice Kamei and her friend Sh Sanahanbi but not to mislead the issue which may bring misunderstanding and chaos.
It also said that the question of abduction, kidnapping and force recruitment do not arise as they were joining the UG group on their own volition as per the ZU investigation.
The statement further charged that the decision to resort to any form of agitation, including the ongoing total bandh on the two NHs, has been done with individual capacity and as per opinion of particular individuals who are holding the post of president and chairman of the Zeliangrong youth and student organisations.
Dismissing the allegations that ZU and KAMA were 'dubious organisations donning sheep skins is the root cause of creating unnecessary social unrest...' as baseless, the joint statement said the allegation speaks out their mind and interior motive perpetrated by them to carry away the people in the wrong direction and notion.
Coming down on the leaders of the Zeliangrong youth and students' organisations, the joint statement accused that the allegation that came through the press itself was the individual decision of the leaders and not the decision of the entire student/youth of the community.
Asserting that the issue of Alice Kamei is out of order now due to ignorance and myopic decision of particular leaders, the joint statement rests the choice on the wisdom of the people whether or not to support the ongoing agitation pertaining to Alice Kamei.
