Imphal, November 22 2011:
Observing that the recent report on the proposed Supra State Body arrangement for the Nagas settled in Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh has the potential to trigger communal disharmony in the region, Janata Dal (United) Manipur State demanded that the Union home Minister clarify the Central Government's stand on the issue.
Speaking to newspersons at the Paona Bazar office of the State unit JD (U) today, its president M Tomba asserted that the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram skipping the sensitive Naga political issue while addressing a public gathering at Senapati district headquarters recently followed by the Seven Sister Post publishing report on the ongoing Centre-NSCN (IM) talks reaching an agreement on formation of Supra State Body merits a thorough explanation by the Union Home Minister.
Expressing that some individuals putting up banners welcoming Chidambaram contrary to uncordial reception accorded to the Chief Minister of Manipur suggest that the former's visit had a hidden agenda, the State president maintained that people of Manipur deserve an official clarification from the Central Government on the status of the ongoing peace parleys between the Centre and Naga rebel group.
Expressing awe on the union home Minister and Manipur Chief Minister contending that they have no idea on what basis the report had been published, Tomba reiterated his demand that the people of Manipur should be clarified on the said issue without further delay.
While criticising the Centre for not consulting the Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh Governments on the issue of Supra State Body, he also cautioned that enforcing the proposed Body will lead to chaos in the region.
Pledging that Janata Dal (U) will not allow implementation of the Supra State Body, Tomba also said that people of Manipur suffering due to the ongoing economic blockade only reaffirms the masses' concept that the SPF Government has failed in every aspect of governance.
With regard to the Nagaland-based Naga People's Front opening it Manipur unit at Senapati some months back, he clarified that Janata Dal (U) will never lend support to the NPF.
