Imphal, October 22 2021:
The Puya Mei Thakhibagi Apunba Ningshing Lup (PUMANIL), Kangleipak observed the 289th anniversary of Puya Mei Thaba (burning of ancient scriptures) in a low key manner at Kangla, today.
A press release issued by PUMANIL stated that the developed Nations of the world take pride in the written records (documents) left to them by their ancestors.
Saying that the erstwhile independent Kangleipak was also among one such entity which has its written records and aged old traditions, PUMANIL regretted that the outside forces, however , ruined the beautiful culture and tradition of the kingdom in certain period of time, especially during the reign of King Paheiba from 1709 to 1748 .
The king under the influence of Shantidas Gosai burnt down all the available Manipuri Puyas in front of Kangla Uttara on the 17th of mera month of Meetei calendar in 1732, the statement said and added that such a fateful event shouldn't be forgotten by the people of Manipur.
The PUMANIL, on the other hand, stated that the non allowance of media persons to cover the event which has a historical significance to the people of Manipur is disappointing.
It also regretted that many people couldn't attend the observance of Puya Mei Thaba due to COVID-19 .
