3 Assembly Constituencies fail to submit list of beneficiaries for FSA

Imphal, March 22 2015: National Food Security Act is not likely to be implemented in Manipur in near future as three Assembly Constituencies have failed to submit the lists of their beneficiaries.

It may be mentioned that some States in India have already implemented the Act and the Government of Manipur had assured the Central Government to implement the schemes under the Act from April onwards.

According to a reliable source, the major impediment in the implementation of the Act comes from non-submission of lists of beneficiaries from Andro; Wangkhei and Keirao by the respective elected representatives.

Involvement of elected representative in the selection of beneficiaries is not an essential criterion.

However, their involvement is to benefit the citizens.

The failure of the elected representatives to act on the issue led to the non-submission of beneficiary lists to the District Supply Officer thereby causing a major hurdle in the implementation of FSA within the period assured by the State Government.
