Imphal, August 21 2012:
Inner Manipur Member of Parliament Dr Th Meinya has drawn the attention of the Central Government on the urgent need to develop Imphal-Jiribam section of National highway-37 to an all-weather highway.
Highlighting woeful conditions of NHs connection Manipur with other parts of the country in the Parliament today, Dr Meinya said that transporters as well as passengers face all sorts of inconveniences while plying on NH-37, especially during the monsoon.
While monsoon season is undoubtedly the worst time of the year to travel on this route the highway nevertheless needs to be developed to an all-weather road taking into account frequent bandh or blockade along NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur) .
The NH-37 comes into the limelight whenever there is disruption caused along the Imphal-Dimapur section, said the MP who also recounted assurances by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to ensure completion of NH-2 development works by 2013 .

The topography of the land, over which the highway passes through has often been cited as a stumbling block, but when the same excuse stretches on for years then it can no longer be taken as valid, said Dr Meinya with reference to agencies not able to live upto the expectation of the Manipur public.
Further stating that it is the common people who suffer the most due to slackness on developing NH-37 in an expeditious manner, he also pointed out that a truck takes nearly 4-5 days to cover the 222 km long Imphal-Jiribam road.
The MP also strongly desired that the Union Government immediately intervene to ensure that assurances of the prime Minister is translated into action.
