Imphal, March 21 2017:
A public meeting held today at Islamic English School, Lilong Hangamthabi has resolved that the new Government led by Chief Minister N Biren should give a Ministerial berth to MLA Ashab Uddin, elected from Jiribam AC.
The public meeting organised by the All Manipur Muslim Development Committee (AMMDC) noted that the decision of DESAM to boycott MLA Ashab Uddin and debar him from joining any political party or the State Government was unfortunate.
As Ashab Uddin has already pledged support to the coalition Government led by BJP, he should be given a Ministerial berth before portfolios are distributed, read another resolution.
The meeting agreed to submit memoranda to the BJP National and State presidents as well as the Chief Minister highlighting the same demand.
Retired DSP (Excise) Sheikh Nasir Ahamad, former Pradhan Md Idrish Ali, Lilong Political Unified Link chief advisor Md Abdul Jabbar and AMMDC chief advisor Md Allaudin Khan attended the meeting as presidium members.
Speaking at the meeting, AMMDC president Md Shahid Ahmed said that Ashab Uddin was a two-time Pradhan before he was elected to the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly and his family have been living at Jiribam since 1906.Meitei Pangals and AMMDC respect and support/would support the JCILPS.
JCILPS has been proposing 1951 as cut off base for identification of immigrants but Ashab Uddin's ancestors have been living at Jiribam since 1906 and the MLA himself has been living there since 1945 .
It was rather disheartening that DESAM was asking all political parties as well as the new Government not to accommodate Ashab Uddin, Md Sahid Ahmed Sheikh remarked.
He urged DESAM to revoke their decisions regarding the Jiribam AC MLA.
He further threatened that AMMDC would be constrained to launch different modes of intense agitation together with like minded organisations in case their demand is not fulfilled.
