Imphal, February 21 2017:
The Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) has threatened not to spare any vehicles for the ensuing State Assembly election including vehicles for transportation of security forces in case Transport Department OSD BK Sharma does not tender an apology by February 23 for committing gross error in the process of requisitioning vehicles for the election.
TDC and other transport organisations held a joint meeting at MG Avenue today regarding requisition of vehicles for the ensuing election.
The meeting was participated by representatives of United Bus Owners Welfare Association, All Manipur Drivers and Motor Workers Union, All Manipur Joint Administrative Council, All Manipur School Bus Owners Welfare Association, All Manipur Under 5-Tonne Passenger Service and Apunba Auto Diesel Drivers and Owners Association.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, United Bus Owners Welfare Association general secretary B Dhanabir and All Manipur Drivers and Motor Workers Union general secretary M Anil said that the meeting endorsed the decision adopted by the TDC not to spare vehicles for the ensuing election.
They also condemned the State Government's decision to requisition vehicles from Assam even though it is the State vehicles which have been contributing significantly to the State's revenue.
They asked Transport Department OSD BK Sharma to tender an apology to the TDC and other transport organisations for following a dubious system of vehicle requisition.
They further demanded immediate release of all pending charges for hiring vehicles for transportation of security forces in connection with maintenance of law and order.
Hiring charges for vehicles used in Tamenglong and Ukhrul ADC election which remained unpaid till date should be released.
Due compensation for vehicles damaged while transporting people stranded at Imphal to different hills districts during the Christmas and New Year's Day celebrations should also be paid without any further delay, they demanded.
