Today�s hearings before the C Upendra commission of inquiry centered around the efforts by doctors to save the life of L Rajkumar, who died as a result of wounds sustained in the July 20 firing at Khwairamband bazaar.
Dr T Arun, surgeon at RIMS hospital, who conducted an emergency operation on the dying Rajkumar on the afternoon of July 20, testified before the commission.
Dr Arun in his testimony recalled that at around 3.30 pm on July 20, soon after L Rajkumar was admitted to RIMS hospital, he was referred to him for an emergency operation.
He said that he conducted a major operation on the injured portion of the patient�s right chest, added that as the condition of the patient was complex, he was helped by several other specialist surgeons, including Prof Dr Ksh Kala, Dr L Amarjeet, Dr L Tomal and Prof Dr NB Singh, Director, RIMS.
He said that during the operation it was found that several internal organs, including the kidney of the patient were found to have been damaged by the bullet and several types of operations were conducted simultaneously on him.
He said that the patient survived about three hours after the operation.
