TUYC mulls protest over tap water denial

Imphal, July 20 2025: Stating that consumers of Thangmeiband Khomdrom Selungba Leikai and Hijam Dewan Leikai have not received water supply for the last five years, Thangmeiband United Youth Club (TUYC) has warned of launching agitations if authorities concerned do not address the matter within short notice.

Addressing the media at Khomdrom Selungba Leikai community hall on Sunday, TUYC advisor Thoudam Kumar expressed remorse that tap water pre-paid connection under Jal Jivan Mission was completed for Khomdrom Selungba Leikai and Hijam Dewan Leikai over five years back, but the taps remain dry till date.

Informing that the two localities fall under the Cheiraoching Water Supply Scheme and Lalambung Water Supply Scheme, he said due to low pressure majority of the residents could not access tap water.

The advisor also decried that despite repeated complaints officials of the department concerned have not taken any action.

Kumar informed that the people of the affected localities are ready to submit a memorandum to the Governor over the issue, and launch intense agitation in case the department concerned does not take concrete action to address the people's grievances.
