Imphal, March 20 2015 :
The proscribed PREPAK has greeted all the people of Kangleipak (Manipur) on the occasion of Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba (new year Day according to Manipuri calendar month) .
The legacy of Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba dates back to very olden days when Kangleipak was an independent Nation State and the same legacy is very much alive today, said a press release issued by the outfit's publicity and propaganda, assistant secretary Leibakngakpa Luwang.
The future of Kangleipak would remain secure as long as the legacy of Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba lives on.
Cheiraoba is one annual event which is closely intertwined with the culture, traditions and political economy of the Nation and the event is a key determinant for the Nation's future.
In short, Cheiraoba is the backbone of the Nation's identity apart from being a constant reminder of the Nation's origin and birth.
Cheiraoba was introduced during the reign of king Leinung Lonja Pakhangba.
The festival underwent some superficial changes during the reign of Meidingu Kiyamba (1467-1508) but the fundament remained unchanged.
Sajibu Cheiraoba is a testimony of the advancement achieved by Kangleipak in the field of calculating days and months based on ancient astrology.
By successfully formulating a systematic method of counting days, months and years which is known as Maliya Phambalcha Kumsing.
The current year is 3411 according to Maliya Phambalcha Kumsing which means the Manipuri calendar is 398 years ahead of the Christian era.
This is clear indication that the ancient Manipuri civilization was comparable with any other human civilization of the time, the outfit asserted.
At one point of time, due to influence by Indians, Sajibu Cheiraoba was celebrated on the 30th day of the last month of Bengali calendar month Cheitra.
Celebration of Charak Puja as Cheiraoba gave a serious blow to the traditions, culture and identity of Kangleipak.
It's time for all the people of Kangleipak to carry forward the true legacy of Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba in order to save the identity of the Nation and make it a prosperous one, the outfit added.
