Imphal, June 19 2012:
Adding more gist to their stand to relocate the office of the Autonomous District Council to their district headquarters from the present camp at Imphal, members of the Indigenous Democratic Front called on Governor Gurbachan Jagat and urged him to do the needful.
In a statement issued to the press today, IDF said that their team highlighted the need to have the ADCs function at their respective district headquarters instead of the temporary camp at Imphal.
Asserting that the ADCs should be relocated to their district headquarters at Tamenglong, Chandel, Ukhrul and Chandel, the IDF team said that failing to do so would amount to contravening the District Council Act and would invite dissolution or supercession of the ADCs according to the law.

For the last two years, ever since the election to the ADC was held, the Councillors of the four ADCs have never gone back to their district headquarters leading to a vacuum in the administration and executive functioning of the said districts, said IDF.
Such a state of affairs can have serious political implications, said the IDF while emphasising the urgent need to grant more autonomy to the hill areas of Manipur.
The statement said that the Governor extended his wishes for the well being of the hill people and promised to do his best to resolve the issue at an early date.
The Governor also expressed his desire to visit the hill districts, once his health permits him, added the statement.
