Hangkhanlian bats for 'martyrs', roads

Chura-chandpur's lone Cabinet Minister in the Biren Singh led BJP Government V Hangkhanlian has today claimed that solving the issue of the 'tribal martyrs' who still await their burial and restoring the dilapidated roads across the State are his Government's top priorities.
The Agriculture Minister made the statement while launching the two-day long National Seminar on Protection of Forest for Sustainable Development in Manipur before a packed crowd at Rayburn College auditorium, New Lamka.
Addressing the crowd of students and numerous educated personalities, Hangkhanlian said resolving the pending issue related to the 'martyrs' and restoring the roads across the State are among the top priorities of the BJP led Government.
It is therefore imperative on the part of the public to reciprocate the Government's gesture and facilitate its urgent realisation.
Prof Adya Prasad Pandey, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University; Prof Dr N Mohendro Singh, Academic Adviser, Rayburn College and Dr Seiboi Singsit, retired Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and formerly Chairman MPSC were among the guests who graced and addressed the inaugural ceremony today.
Organised by Rayburn College with funding from North Eastern Council the seminar on 'Protection of Forest for Sustainable Development in Manipur' had seven speakers each in two separate classes presenting their papers at parallel sessions from noon till 4pm.Prof Laldena and Prof Salam Irene chaired the two parallel sessions with Dr Ch Tania, Dr Kh Rishikanta Singh, Aruna Beemrote, Dr Romila Akoijam, RS Telem, Dr Thajamanbi Yumkham and Lalhriatchhungi speaking on separate set of topics at a session conducted by the former while Dr Zothangchhingi Khiangte, Dr Immanuel Zarzosang Varte, Dr E Lamalakshmi Devi, Dr Sudhir Kumar, Dr A Ningombam and Dr T Basanta Singh spoke at the latter's session.
As the seminar's subject embraced a wide array of topics, the over a dozen speakers at the parallel sessions held today, as well as those that will be conducted tomorrow have laid and will lay stress on different set of topics but identified with the seminar subject.
A plenary session, moderated by Prof D Kuolie, Head, Department of Linguistic, Nagaland University was also held prior to the main seminar with Prof Lal Dena, Prof Salam Irene and Dr Sonzalian Naulak Chief Conservator of Forest, Govt of Manipur as session panellists.
Two parallel seminars will again be held tomorrow at two separate class rooms with each room set to witness presentation of nine independent papers each.
Dr Thathang Vaiphei and Dr Zothanchhingi Khiangte will conduct each of the parallel session till noon.
The speakers will include Rev Dr Khen P Tombing, Lalthriatchhungi, Dr Seilenkap Haokip, Dr Lianboi Vaiphei, Dr Ksh Premchandra Singh, K Thangliankhup, Prof Salam Irene, Chinmuanthang Guite, Khamsuanmung Tombing, Dr Prahlad Basumatary, Prof D Kuolie, and K Vungzamawi.
The afternoon sessions too will be parallel and shall be conducted by Dr Ksh Premchandra Singh and Prof D Kuolie.
The speakers will be Dr David J Baite, S Kamminlun and Paukhankhual Tonsing at the former's class and Dr Lalzagou Neihsial, Dr Danney Chara, and Partakson at the latter's class.
A valedictory function will be held at 3pm with several top officials from the security agencies set to grace the event.
